ANZ phishing text message

July and August 2024

We’re aware of a phishing text scam claiming to be from ANZ, asking customers to click on a link to verify their account and personal information. The text message may appear to come from a 4-digit number ANZ has used to contact you before.

For the security of your information and device:

  • Do NOT click on any links and
  • Delete the message immediately.

We never send text messages with links to log into ANZ Internet Banking.

You can also report these scam texts to the Department of Internal Affairs by forwarding the message to their free text number 7726.

The fake websites in the text messages pictured below have been taken down. But it’s important to remain vigilant and never click on links or provide personal information in response to unexpected or suspicious texts or emails.

The text message may look like this.

Remember:

  • If you think you’ve been the victim of a scam, please call us immediately on 0800 269 296 (or +64 4 470 3142 from overseas, charges may apply).
  • If you receive an unexpected or suspicious text message or email, never click on a link or download an attachment in it.
  • ANZ will never send you a text message and ask you to click on a link.
  • Always access Internet Banking through the ANZ website, not from links in text messages or emails.
  • Never disclose your personal information or banking details, including two-factor authentication codes.
  • Avoid granting remote access to your devices through a link in an email or text message, or in response to a phone call you’ve received out of the blue.
  • Always check account numbers with suppliers (preferably by calling) before paying invoices.
