Our investment team is one of the largest and most experienced in New Zealand, with a proven track record for long-term performance.

George Crosby

Chief Investment Officer

George has overall investment responsibility for ANZ Investments across all asset classes, in addition to managing the investment team. 

George has over 20 years of experience in the investments industry working in New Zealand and the UK. Prior to joining ANZ he spent more than 15 years with the Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation Fund. In his earlier years he traded various derivatives books at Westpac, BNP Paribas and Toronto Dominion Bank in Wellington and London. 

George has a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Canterbury and is of Te Rarawa and Te Aupōuri descent.

Mathew Young

Deputy Chief Investment Officer
Head of FX Strategy and Investment Implementation

Mathew is responsible for the implementation of investment decisions across our KiwiSaver, retail and private bank portfolios. He also leads the research for setting the strategic direction of foreign exchange positions for our portfolios and is involved in the wider strategy discussions. In Mat’s capacity as Deputy CIO, he assumes overall investment responsibility for ANZ Investments across all asset classes, in addition to managing the investment team in George’s absence.

Mat has been involved in the funds management industry for over 18 years, and joined ANZ Investments in 2002. Prior to that he worked for a variety of firms in London including Old Mutual Fund Management and Hemscott.net.

Mat is a CFA Charterholder and has a Bachelor of Management Studies from the University of Waikato.

Shiau Teoh

Investment Implementation Analyst

Shiau is part of the FX Strategy and Implementation team with a focus on research and providing recommendations that support the team’s active hedging strategy. Implementation responsibilities include trade execution on currency decisions and application of asset allocation decisions across our KiwiSaver, retail and private bank portfolios. 

Shiau joined ANZ Investments in 2014, and previously led a team of four responsible for portfolio management and implementation of ANZ’s private bank portfolios.

Shiau has a Bachelor of Business Studies from Massey University.

Qing Ding

Head of Asset Allocation

Qing is responsible for the strategic design of ANZ Investments’ diversified portfolios and their total portfolio management, including Strategic Asset Allocation (SAA), Tactical Asset Allocation (TAA), risk budgeting and dynamic management of these settings. 

Qing has over 18 years of experience in the finance and investment industry. Prior to joining ANZ, she spent seven years with the Guardian of New Zealand Superannuation Fund.  Before that, she worked for six years with the Government Superannuation Fund Authority and the Board of Trustees of the National Provident Fund.  In her early career, she held various roles with Westpac New Zealand, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, and AMP Capital Investors. 

Qing holds a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Finance and Economics, from Victoria University of Wellington and is a CFA Charterholder.

Tina Gupta

Senior Investment Analyst

Tina is a Senior Investment Analyst in the Asset allocation team where she focuses on the strategic and tactical asset allocations of the Diversified Funds managed by ANZ Investments. 

Tina has over 13 years of experience in the financial services industry having worked across a range of asset classes. She joined ANZ in 2022 from the FMA where she worked for three years, prior to that she spent seven years with Deutsche Bank in India.

Tina has a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from the Shri Ram College of Commerce–Delhi University and a Master of Business Administration from the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode. She has passed two levels of the CFA Program. 

Erin Hasemore-Slieker

Senior Investment Analyst

Erin is an Investment Analyst in the Asset Allocation team where she focuses on both the strategic and tactical asset allocation of the Diversified Funds managed by ANZ Investments.

Erin joined ANZ in 2018 as a Wealth graduate, followed by two years in a Performance Analytics role. She also spent time as a Research Analyst for the Australasian Equity team, with a focus on the technology sector.

Erin holds a Bachelor of Business Studies (Finance and Economics) from Massey University and is a CFA Charterholder.

Balthazar Roscoe

Investment Analyst

Balthazar is an Investment Analyst in the Asset Allocation team, where he provides research and market insights to support tactical allocation decisions. He also develops and enhances models that facilitate the strategic asset allocation process.

Balthazar joined ANZ in 2023 as a Funds Management Graduate. During his first year, he completed rotations through the Implementation, Responsible Investing, and Domestic Equity teams before joining the Asset Allocation team in 2024.

Balthazar holds a Bachelor of Biomedical Science, a Graduate Diploma in Finance, and a Master of Finance (with distinction) from the University of Otago.

Equities

Max Lesser

Head of Equities and Listed Property

Max is jointly responsible for management of the Australasian equity portfolios. He also manages the internal investment research function. He joined ANZ Investments in April 2018.

Prior to this Max was Founding Partner at UK investment manager Worsley Associates LLP; Investment Manager at Guinness Peat Group plc; and Equity Analyst at stock brokers JBWere and BZW New Zealand.

Max has a Bachelor of Commerce from Canterbury University.

Francois de Cannart d’Hamale

Portfolio Manager, Listed Property

Francois joined ANZ in May 2023 as a Senior Equity Analyst to research property equity stocks in New Zealand and Australia.

Francois has 21 years of experience in the investment and finance industry. Prior to ANZ, Francois was a Managing Director at Round Hill Capital in London and Singapore where he looked after direct investments in the residential and senior housing property sectors across Europe. Before this he worked in real estate investment banking for Jefferies and for J.P. Morgan in London. He started his career at Sloane Robinson Investment Management, a London-based hedge fund.

Francois holds a Master of Engineering in Business Engineering from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) and a Master of Science in European Studies from the London School of Economics.

Andrew Mortimer

Fund Manager Equities

Andrew joined our Equities team as a Senior Analyst in November 2017 following a period where he acted as an independent adviser with roles including providing independent and company commissioned research, corporate advice and capital solutions.

Prior to that Andrew was a Portfolio Manager and Analyst at Brook Asset Management for six years and earlier was employed as a Research Director at FNZC (and its predecessors) from 1998 to 2008.

Andrew has a Bachelor of Commerce from Otago University.

Juan Alaimo

Senior Equity Analyst

Juan joined ANZ in October 2023 as a Senior Equity Analyst and is responsible for covering cyclical Australasian listed companies.

Juan has over 13 years of industry experience including equity research covering the Canadian telecom services market and producing global research pieces in the sector. He also spent time doing equity fundraising for startups during his overseas experience in the UK. Before joining ANZ, he did independent work including family office and corporate finance consulting.

Juan holds a Licentiate cum-laude degree in Economics from Universidad de Buenos Aires and a Masters in Finance (with distinction) from London Business School and is a CFA Charterholder.

Roy Cross

Senior Equities Analyst

Roy joined our Equities team as a Senior Analyst in June 2023 with a focus on Healthcare and Technology sectors.

Prior to ANZ, Roy was Head of Fixed Interest at QuayStreet Asset Management which he joined at its inception in 2014. Over this time, he was focussed on both fixed interest and equity research in addition to portfolio management responsibilities. Before this Roy was an Equity Analyst at Brook Asset Management for 9 years covering a variety of Australasian sectors.

Roy has a Bachelor of Management Studies from the University of Waikato, a Master of Business Studies from Massey University and is a CFA Charterholder. 

Tina Hou

Equity Analyst, Listed Property

Tina joined ANZ in October 2024 as an Equity Analyst, focusing on listed properties and aged care across New Zealand and Australia. 

Prior to ANZ, Tina was a manager at PwC corporate finance team advising listed and private businesses on merger, acquisition and valuation. 

Tina graduated from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and is a Chartered Accountant. 

Ryan Li

Equity Analyst

Ryan joined our Equities team as an Analyst in April 2024 with a focus on Utilities and Infrastructure sectors. 

Prior to ANZ, Ryan was an Equity Analyst at Craigs Investment Partners for three years covering the New Zealand Utilities, Construction and Dairy sectors. Before this Ryan spent three years as a Corporate Banking Analyst at China Merchants Bank in Beijing and had two years of experience in derivatives valuation at PwC New Zealand.

Ryan is a CFA Charterholder and holds a Master of Applied Finance from Auckland University of Technology.

Fixed interest and cash

Iain Cox

Head of Australasian Fixed Interest and Cash

Iain has been with ANZ Investments’ since 2007 and was appointed Head of Fixed Interest and Cash in New Zealand and Australia in March 2014.

Working since 1994 in funds management and investment banking, both locally and overseas, Iain has specialist knowledge and experience of both the domestic and global credit and interest rate markets.

Formerly a portfolio manager at a privately owned and Auckland-based retail fund manager, Iain has also held roles involving product and operations control for Salomon Bros, Citigroup, Barclays Capital and Credit Suisse First Boston, supporting fixed income cash and emerging market and derivative businesses in London and Milan.

Iain has a Bachelor of Arts (Joint Honours) Accountancy and Economics from the University of Manchester.

Varun Khanna

Fund Manager Fixed Interest

Varun joined ANZ Investments in 2022 as an Assistant Fund Manager in the Fixed Interest and Cash team focusing on credit research.

With close to 10 years’ experience in Financial Services, Varun has previously held Product Control and Management Accounting roles at ASB, BNZ and Jarden.

Varun has a Bachelor of Business (Accounting and Finance).

 

Ray Jack

Senior Investment Analyst

Ray has been with ANZ Investments since 1998 and works as a Senior Investment Analyst in the Fixed Interest and Cash team. Prior to this he was an Equity Analyst in the Equities team, and has over 20 years’ experience analysing Australian and New Zealand listed companies.

Ray has also served on ANZ Investments’ Asset Allocation Committee, which is focused on making tactical and strategic asset allocation decisions for global equity markets, fixed interest markets, currencies and commodities.

Ray has a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics and Finance) as well as a Diploma in Financial Planning.

Scott Johnson

Assistant Portfolio Manager Fixed Interest and Cash

Scott recently joined ANZ as an Assistant Fund Manager in the Fixed Interest and Cash team focusing on credit research.

With five years of experience across Banking and Corporate Finance, Scott has held positions at BNZ within their Institutional Banking team as a Senior Credit Analyst gaining experience across their Infrastructure, Public Sector and Diversified portfolios, and has worked at an Australian based Private Debt Fund, as an Investment Associate, focusing on leverage finance transactions.

Scott holds a Bachelor of Management Studies with Honours from the University of Waikato, majoring in Finance and Strategic Management.

Chi-Yu Yang

Fixed Interest Analyst

Chi has joined the Fixed Interest and Cash investment team focusing on cash trading and credit research.

Chi has experience in OTC derivatives valuation at PwC. Additionally, he has worked as a product development engineer at Fisher & Paykel Healthcare.

Chi holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), specialising in Mechatronics, and a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Finance and Economics.

Investment partnerships and responsible investment

Paul Gregory

Head of Investment Partnerships

Paul is responsible for establishing and managing enduring global investment partnerships to help position ANZ Investments (ANZI) to grow its KiwiSaver schemes and Investment funds. 

He also leads the Responsible Investing team, ensuring ANZI takes a well-defined approach which factors in people, society, and the environment, along with financial performance, when making investment decisions.

Paul joined ANZ in 2024 and has over 20 years’ experience in financial services. He has held senior roles in both the public and private sectors, including at the Financial Markets Authority, Pie Funds, the Guardians of the New Zealand Superannuation Fund and Macquarie Group.

Heath Smith

Senior Investment Analyst

Heath is a Senior Investment Analyst focussed on the selection, appointment and monitoring of our appointed third-party managers and partners.

He has been involved in the investment industry in both New Zealand and the UK for over 20 years. He has been with ANZ for over 10 years and was previously the Fund Accounting Manager and the Investment Reporting Manager and most recently was a Client Relationship Manager for our Institutional clients.

Heath holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Finance from the University of Auckland. He is a qualified chartered accountant and is a CFA Charterholder. 

Mitch McNae

Responsible Investment Manager

Mitch is a Manager in the Responsible Investment team and is focused on overseeing the implementation of responsible investment considerations across ANZ Investments.

He joined ANZ in 2018 as a graduate after completing a summer internship in the Funds Management division in 2016/17 and has held a variety of analyst positions across Investment Management before moving to his current role in July 2024.

Mitch has a Bachelor of Management Studies (Finance and Strategic Management) from the University of Waikato. 

Megan Palmer

Investment Analyst

Megan supports the development of ANZ Investment’s Climate Strategy, Risk and Opportunities Framework. This is part of the Climate-related Disclosures project.

Prior to this role, Megan was an FX and Implementation Analyst where she assisted with currency research and the implementation and management of ANZ’s Private Bank portfolios. She joined ANZ as part of the Graduate programme in 2021.

Megan holds a Bachelor of Business Studies (Finance and Management) from Massey University.

Tom Hyland

Senior Responsible Investment Analyst

Tom is a Senior Responsible Investment Analyst within the investment management team, focused on integrating climate and responsible investment considerations into the investment process, as well as preparing ANZ Investments Climate Statements.

Before ANZ, Tom worked as a specialist in sustainability at Fonterra, New Zealand's largest exporter and major player in global dairy. He contributed to the development of their globally scrutinised climate strategy and annual climate-related disclosures, prepared in accordance with the New Zealand Climate Standards.

Tom holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the Victoria University of Wellington, triple majoring in Information Systems, Environmental Studies (taught by science faculty), and Marketing. He additionally holds post graduate finance and sustainability certifications through the Global Association of Risk Professionals, Harvard Business School Online, and Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

Grace Ritchie

Responsible Investment Analyst

Grace is an Investment Analyst focused on the integration of the Responsible Investment Framework across the diversified fund portfolios at ANZ Investments. 

Prior to this role, Grace was at Craigs Investment Partners for over two years. Most recently, as a Specialised Wealth Analyst, where she serviced large mandate clients and assisted with the management of alternative assets.

Grace holds a Bachelor of Business Administration majoring in Finance from the University of Portland (USA) where she also competed as a NCAA Division 1 athlete.
