ANZ PIE Fund Term Option rate reduction – % p.a.

Rate reduction amount calculation

Amount withdrawn x reduction rate ÷ 365 days x days invested up to date of withdrawal

A term deposit of $10,000 is opened at an interest rate of 4.00% for 1 year, with interest to be paid at maturity.

We receive a 31 day break request to withdraw the $10,000 early. We agree to the break.

On the day of withdrawal, the money has been invested for 183 days.

The interest earned on the $10,000 at 4.00% p.a. for 183 days is:

Amount x interest rate ÷ 365 days x days invested

$10,000 x 4.00% ÷ 365 x 183 = $200.55

The rate reduction is:

Amount withdrawn x reduction rate ÷ 365 days x days invested up to date of withdrawal

$10,000 x 1.00% ÷ 365 x 183 = $50.14

The amount of interest the investor will receive is:

Interest earned - rate reduction

$200.55 - $50.14 = $150.41

The total amount the investor will receive is the original investment plus the reduced interest:

$10,000 + $150.41 = $10,150.41

By breaking early, the investor received $50.14 less in interest.

The calculation for PIE Fund Term Option rate reduction is the same as the term deposit example, using rate of return in place of interest rate. In this example, all amounts are before tax.
